IN THE CONTEXT OF THE AIC ON FESTIVAL 2023
Contemporary Middle East e.V. präsentiert:
Berlin-based Egyptian conceptual artist Ahmed Kamel has been dealing with conflicts on an interpersonal and political level for a long time. His multidisciplinary installation „Did Not Happen“ addresses how power can be used to influence individual and public perceptions and thus change collective memory and the ‘official’ course of history. The work was created as part of an artist-in-residency at the German Foreign Office!
As part of the AIC ON walk “The so-called Outside”
“Just Like It Never Existed” – part of “Did Not Happen”
The performance appears to be intentionally designed to create an impactful message about the importance of preserving the past and the potential consequences of attempting to manipulate it. It is a visual depiction of erasing, a thought-provoking exploration of how history is constructed and the role that memory and authority play in shaping it.
